Your Partners in Techniques & Technologies for the Sustainable Use of Our Water & Wastewater

We help our clients in implementing the most cost-effective techniques and technologies for the beneficial and sustainable use of water and wastewater

Home: About

Our Approach

We work in collaboration with other partners/collaborators to help implement the most cost-effective techniques and technologies for a sustainable approach to managing our water and other resources including what might otherwise be considered waste.

Our partners usually bring to the table the knowledge of a given market and/or a given sector of the economy.  And, through this collaborative approach, we always customize the solution for a given problem or challenge that our client(s) may have. Our solution is always the most appropriate and cost-effective for a given problem whether it relates to the sustainable use of water or the management and beneficial use of wastes including wastewaters, solid wastes, and sludges.

Our Focus

We work with three types of clients: municipalities; private land developers; industries.

Home: Services

Municipalities

Municipalities owned water, wastewater, and solid waste treatment and disposal facilities who want to concomitantly reduce the capital/operating costs and improve the performance; and

Land Development

Private land developers who want to use the cutting-edge and cost-effective sustainable development technologies for potable water supply, stormwater management, residues/solid waste management, and green building technologies such as solar photovoltaic energy, solar thermal energy, insulated concrete forms, beneficial use of grey-water, minimization/elimination of black water, and minimization/elimination of solid waste.

Water Disinfection

Industrial

In the industrial sector, our focus is on water pollution prevention and waste reduction/reuse/recycling.  Industrial sectors that are quite large in Canada have been our particular focus.  These include mining, forest products, pulp-paper making, oil-gas production, food processing, beverage making/filling, and metal fabrication/finishing,

Our People

Bruce Jank, Ph. D., P. Eng.

bruce@ccwti.ca

Chairman of the Board of Directors & CEO

As a professional engineer in the environmental engineering field, he has over 40 years of experience in testing, developing, demonstrating and commercially implementing cutting-edge and cost-effective technologies in both the municipal and industrial sectors.  He has trained and collaborated with environmental engineers and scientists in many highly industrialized countries as well as several rapidly developing countries.

Abbas Zaidi, M. Sc., P. Eng.

abbas@ccwti.ca

Director of Technologies

   As a professional engineer in the environmental engineering field, he has over 40 years of experience in testing, developing, demonstrating and commercially implementing cutting-edge and cost-effective technologies for the prevention and control of pollution in the industrial sector.  These sectors include upstream oil and gas, gold mining, uranium mining, metal fabrication & finishing, food processing, and beverage making/filling.  His particular focus has been on the use of physico-chemical technologies for preventing and/or controlling water pollution and recycling treated wastewater.  These technologies include chemical oxidation/reduction, photo-oxidation, ion exchange, granular media filtration, membrane filtration, pyrolysis, photolysis, activated carbon adsorption, and molecular sieves.

Gord Speirs, B. Sc. (Civil Eng.,) M. Sc.

gord@ccwti.ca

Director of Engineering

As a professional in the environmental field, he has over 40 years of experience in design, procurement, installation, troubleshooting and de-bottle-necking of the pilot and commercial plants for water, wastewater and sludge treatment. He has extensive hands-on experience in both the municipal and the industrial sector.  Together with Dr. Bruce Jank, he has been actively involved in technology transfer and local capacity building in several rapidly developing countries.  These countries include Singapore, Mexico, Poland, and Egypt.

Our Projects

Our principals have led numerous projects both in Canada and abroad.  implemented Projects that Dr. Jank has led to date include:

  • development, demonstration and commercialization of an innovative, and patented, technology for the production of oil from municipal sludge;

  • techniques and technologies for the optimization of process control in municipal wastewater treatment plants;

  • concomitant minimization of capital cost and improvement of performance for municipal wastewater treatment plants through an innovative engineering procurement approach;

  • development and testing of a technology for a proposed waste tire to marketable products facility in Canada;

  • designing and costing of an innovative proprietary technology for the final disposal of municipal sludge in a proposed 1.2 billion dollar wastewater treatment/disposal facility in Canada.  The innovative disposal system was based on a technology estimated to cost 50% less than the conventional sludge management approach while at the same time also generate sufficient electrical power to prvide positive cash flow from the disposal of the sludge from the plant;

  • design, costing and installation of several medium-size municipal wastewater treatment plants using an approach that reduced the capital cost to 50% of the cost for conventional approach and simultaneously improved the performance and reliability of the operation;

  • utility management strategies for several private land development projects in Albert, British Columbia, and Ontario;

  • assessment studies and reports, as a lead consultant, for the design and regulatory approval of a solar farm in Ontario, Canada;

  • conceptualization and implementation of the first public-private partnership for a wastewater treatment plant in Canada to achieve better performance and to concomitantly reduce the operating/maintenance costs;

  • numerous projects related to the development and demonstration of innovative water and wastewater treatment technologies in industrial sectors such as mining, pulp-paper making, and food processing.

Projects that Mr. Zaidi has led to date include:

  • development, testing and field demonstration of electrodialysis and vapor compression evaporation technologies for the treatment of water co-produced during oil and gas production;

  • development and demonstration of an artificial intelligence-based system for the design, costing and procurement of cyanide waste treatment plants for the gold mining industry in Canada;

  • implementation of an innovative effluent treatment/disposal technology for an ink-jet manufacturing facility in Singapore;

  • development and commercialization of proprietary bilge-water treatment technology for installation on Canada's navy ships;

  • assistance and support to the Singapore government, as an advisor, in the establishment of an Environmental Technology Institute for development, demonstration, and commercialization of environmental technologies.
